Heal Your Heart and Soul at Life Sathorn Sierra, a Space for Biodiversity

For over two years, AP Thailand has been monitoring the growth of the green common area in the heart of the city within the Life Sathorn Sierra project. With a substantial size of 5 rai, the area was exceptionally designed to enhance both green spaces and living spaces. To ensure that the development of the surrounding area does not adversely affect the quality of life of various local living organisms, AP Thailand and its business partner, Mitsubishi Estate, a leader in the real estate business from Japan, have collaboratively designed the Life Sathorn Sierra project with the goal of enabling various species such as birds and insects to coexist through residential design that integrates green spaces across the project. This led to the creation of an ecosystem developed by humans, using the green spaces of the residential projects to connect people, living things, and the surrounding environment, allowing all to coexist in harmony.

Inspired by a mountain range surrounded by valleys of native tree species, the area is expected to provide a resting stop and feeding area for birds in the future. With the selection of species like Freshwater Mangrove (Carallia brachiata (Lour.) Merr.), the project also includes birdhouses along the pathways from the 1st-5th floor for nesting. Furthermore, to make this area a place for learning and to bring residents closer to nature within their own home spaces, labels with QR codes providing additional information about each tree species have been installed throughout the project.

As biodiversity is a key factor for living and sustainable development, AP has been consistently monitoring the impacts even after the project s completion. This year, we conducted a biodiversity survey for the project’s area using the direct visual encounter survey method, covering the common area on the 1st floor, along the connecting pathways on all five floors, the 5th floor, and the 40th floor. The survey found six bird species, with the Zebra Dove being a prominent species, while ants, bees, wasps, and hornets were notable among eight insect species, and two reptile species that were documented as local wildlife according to the pre-construction assessment report. This reassures us that our green area management, which is designed to align with the existing ecosystem, is a success, confirming that local wildlife has adapted and is thriving in this new environment. This proves that AP does not only develop residences for people but also manages our spaces across our project appropriately for other living beings.
